A LITTLE
OF HISTORY
Izenah III, a racer-cruiser sailboat, is a 43-foot (13.3 m) sloop commissioned by Mr. Holley from architect Dick Carter, a legendary figure of the golden age of offshore racing (1965–1985).
Ordered in 1969, it was built in the Netherlands by the Maas shipyard and launched for the first time in May 1970.
Over four years of competition, it took part in some of the R.O.R.C.’s most prestigious races, such as the Fastnet and the Admiral’s Cup, alongside exceptional yachts like Gitana V and Pen Duick.
After winning two French Class II Championship titles and numerous podiums, it left the racing scene and spent over fifteen years sailing around the world.
In the early 1990s, Izenah was spotted in Martinique and purchased by Pierre and Monique Righezza, who instantly fell in love with it. They brought it back to the Mediterranean and spent the next twenty years sailing through some of its most beautiful waters.
Worn out by decades at sea, Izenah was in need of major restoration. The decision was made to pass it on to Jacques, one of Pierre and Monique’s five children, who undertook its complete renovation. This marked the beginning of a seven-year journey, from researching original plans, collecting accounts from former owners, to overseeing a meticulous and documented restoration that brought Izenah back to life, exactly as it was designed.
Izenah was officially recognised as a “Bateau d’Intérêt Patrimonial” (Boat of Heritage Interest) in 2017. Today, in better shape than ever, it sails the southern coast of France, based in the bay of La Ciotat.
